Actors Without Bard’ers (AWB) will present an evening of classic monologues and sonnets by William Shakespeare entitled “A Search for Truth” at Roofers in Itaewon on Feb. 12. The show begins at 8 p.m.
The evening will feature pieces from “Hamlet,” “Richard III,” “Twelfth Night,” “ A Winter's Tale,” and a Valentines treat of a sonnet set to an original musical interpretation.
A sonnet is one of several forms of poetry originating in Europe derived from the Occitan word sonet and the Italian word sonetto, both meaning "little song" or "little sound.”
The AWB first took to the stage in December 2009, performing a diverse collection of Shakespeare scenes at Roofers bar in Itaewon, Seoul, and has since presented many of the Bard of Avon’s greatest works.
The company formed with a mission to address the dearth of English-language Shakespeare performances in the country and it has taken a leading role in bringing more of the playwright's work to audiences. It is an established part of the expat theater community along with such names as BH Productions, Seoul Players and Seoul City Improv.
There are no reservations for this show, so please arrive early to ensure your seat.
The entrance fee is 10,000won.
Doors open at 7 p.m. and patrons are advised to come early for Roofers wonderful menu and drink selection and stay late for the after party hosted by JoshRoy and Ryan DA Green.
To get to Roofers, leave exit 3 of Itaewon Station (line 6). Walk straight until you come to Dunkin Donuts. Turn right just after Dunkin Donuts. Walk up the hill for about one minute. Roofers is on the right, directly across from the Foreign Food Mart, on the top floor.
