Hundertwasser Exhibition to run through March 15

Friedensreich Hundertwasser, known for building the hobbit town in the “Lord of Rings” trilogy, is holding a special exhibition in his first display in Korea.

The Hundertwasser Exhibition is currently underway at Hangaram Design Museum atSeoul Arts Center.

More than 60 original paintings and eight construction models, original graphics and tapestries are on display. The architect, artist and environmentalist will donate three percent of all general admission fees to the World Vision organization.

The exhibition is open from 10 a.m. through 7 p.m. in January and February; and 11 a.m. through 8 p.m. in March.

Admission for adults is 15,000 won; for teenagers 7,000 won; and for children 5,000 won

To get to Seoul Arts Center, drive across Banpo Bridge and keep going straight to the end of the road. The Seoul Arts Center is right in front of you. Turn left and then make an immediate right to get into the parking lot. To park nearer the Concert Hall, turn right. At the next light make a U-turn and come back down to the Concert Hall parking lot.

You can also take the subway to Nambu Bus Terminal Station on line 3. Go out of exit 4 or 5 and walk for about 15 to 20 minutes or take a taxi.

Cheongpyeong Ice and Trout Festival

The Cheongpyeong Ice and Trout Festival will take place through Feb. 7 in Gyeonggi Province. The festival is open from 9 a.m. till 8 p.m.

The cost for adults is 13,000 won and includes a 5,000 won coupon. Held at a reservoir made by blocking the downstream of Jojongcheon River, the festival presents a range of fun events including that of catching trout through the ice covering the reservoir and sledding. Participants in the trout fishing may eat the fish they have caught raw or cooked. A market nearby offers a wealth of rural-style dishes such as “jangteo gukbap” or market stew with rice,” raw smelt, assorted fried offerings and “haemul pajeon” or seafood pancake. Participants may also choose to indulge in children’s games such as riding a sled or spinning a top on the ice.

The venue is Cheongpyeong-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province.

Free sledding at Seoul Children’s Grand Park through Feb. 6

Visitors can ride traditional Korean sleds and even try their hand at traditional Korean top-spinning. There is also a small lounge when you can get out of the cold and bake your own sweet potato (all free of charge).

The times are 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. seven days a week.

How to get there: The sledding hill is located near the entrance of the eco-pond deck right beside the main gate of the Children’s Grand Park. Take subway line 5, get off at Achasan Depot and leave through exit 4 (rear entrance).
