The University of Seoul held its August 2026 commencement ceremony at its campus on Aug. 21, the university said Friday.
According to the university, a total of 1,138 graduates received their degrees: 601 bachelor’s degrees, 464 master’s degrees and 73 doctoral degrees.
Graduates, their families, faculty, staff, alumni and other distinguished guests attended the event to celebrate the graduates’ new beginnings.
Among the 122 undergraduate graduates who achieved outstanding academic results, 10 received awards, including the Seoul Mayor’s Award, the Seoul Metropolitan Council Chairperson’s Award, the University President’s Award and the Alumni Association President’s Award.

In his commencement speech, Won Yong-kul, president of the university, emphasized the capabilities graduates need in an era of rapid artificial intelligence (AI) transformation.
“The key capabilities needed to thrive in the AI era are an understanding of AI’s principles and limitations and the ability to use it proactively and creativity, the ability to ask questions that AI cannot answer and the courage to take on challenges without fear of failure,” he said.
He congratulated the graduates, saying, “You are the ones who will open a new chapter in the University of Seoul’s more than a century-long tradition of nurturing talent for each era.”
“The stories you create from this point forward will become the next chapter in the history of the University of Seoul,” he added.
