Four people were injured Tuesday after an anti-aircraft shell exploded at an Army training center in Paju, near the inter-Korean border, military officials said.

The explosion occurred in the morning while troops were removing a 30-millimeter artillery round that had become lodged in an ammunition loader during an air defense firing drill, according to the Army.

Three non-commissioned officers and one civilian employee were airlifted to a military hospital in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, following the incident. They sustained non-life-threatening injuries, such as wounds to their shoulders, according to officials.

An Army official said military authorities were looking into the exact cause of the explosion.
