Army Chief of Staff Gen. Park An-su, who served as the main commander for former President Yoon Suk Yeol's botched martial law bid, was discharged from the military, the defense ministry said Thursday.

Park, indicted for his alleged role in the martial law operation, was removed from service as his term as the army chief ended Thursday, the ministry said in a notice.

He has been under investigation by a special prosecution team after being indicted in January on charges of playing a key role in the martial law operation.

Gen. Kim Gyu-ha, who took over as the acting Army chief in September, has officially taken the post.
