An explosion at an Army artillery unit in the northwestern city of Paju left at least 10 soldiers injured, officials said.
The incident took place at about 3:30 p.m. during artillery drills at the unit that proceeded without live ammunition, according to the officials.
A practice shell used to create explosion sound effects reportedly detonated during the drills.
None of the injured soldiers were in critical condition, with two suffering burns on their arms and legs, and the other eight being treated for burns on their hands.
A total of 12 soldiers had participated in the drills.
Military authorities are investigating the incident.
