Korean, US, Thai Marines hold joint reconnaissance exercise

An elite group of Korean, U.S. and Thai Marines have staged joint reconnaissance drills as part of an annual multinational exercise in Thailand, the Korea's Marine Corps said Wednesday.

The weeklong joint exercise began last Friday, involving some 40 Marines from the three countries, amid the ongoing Cobra Gold exercise that kicked off last week, according to the Marine Corps.

The three sides staged various drills, including training on underwater infiltration and jungle survival skills, to improve joint operational capabilities, it said.

Korea sent some 330 Navy and Marine Corps personnel to take part in Cobra Gold, which staged various drills across 11 regions in the Southeast Asian country and is set to end Friday.

During the exercise period, Korean troops took part in humanitarian activities, such as helping with the construction of a school building in the Lopburi region of central Thailand, the Marine Corps said. (Yonhap)
