Korean military will reduce the number of its Army generals by three later this year, the defense ministry said Wednesday, as part of the defense reform plan aimed at streamlining the bloated military command structure.

Under the plan, colonels will be appointed to the public administration director at the Korea Military Academy and the vice chief of the Army's aviation operation command, while a senior post at the Korea National Defense University will be scrapped after the incumbent retires.

The move is part of the defense reform plan that seeks to cut the posts of about 60 Army generals by 2030 for more effective operational command, the ministry explained. (Yonhap)
