Stern to Be Moved Toward Island

Listen

The stern of the sunken frigate Cheonan will be moved toward the Baengnyeong Island in the West Sea to prevent it from being damaged by high seas and strong currents in the coming days, the Ministry of National Defense said Monday.

Two metal chains have been successfully looped under the stern portion, where 44 missing sailors are believed to have been trapped, a ministry spokesman said.

One more chain is required to be connected to hoist the wreckage.

``A high seas watch is expected to be issued tonight, so we've decided to move the stern 4.6 kilometers toward the island,'' the spokesman said.
