The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) has opened a defense trade office in Peru in a move to diversify its weapons export market, DAPA officials said Monday.

A ceremony marking the establishment of the office for promoting arms trade between the two countries will be held on Nov. 11 in Lima, capital of Peru, they said. DAPA Commissioner Lee Sun-hi will attend the event.

A Navy captain will head the office, the second of its kind after an office in Egypt.

The agency plans to open three more arms trade offices in Asian, Russian and Middle Eastern regions, the officials said.

Meanwhile, a group of 20 procurement officials and Korean defense firms will attend the Latin American nation's first-ever arms exhibition to be held from Nov. 21-25.

Eight defense companies including Doosan Infracore and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering will participate in the international defense fair, where about 50 defense manufacturers from 10 nations will join.
