Korea's customs agency said Tuesday it has seized a total of 117,000 items of phony goods bearing local brands in its special crackdown conducted last year.
Most of such counterfeit goods, or 97.7 percent, were imported from China, while only 2.2 percent were from Vietnam, according to the Korea Customs Service.
The items included counterfeited cosmetics products of local brands, key chains of the megahit boy band BTS and fake electronic goods of local companies, such as Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics.
The customs agency plans to take follow-up measures to a memorandum of understanding signed with China early this month on the protection of intellectual property at the border level.
It also plans to expand cooperation with customs agencies of other countries, while establishing a public-private consultative body with domestic brands to come up with preventive measures.
