3-truck chain collision in expressway tunnel kills 1

A chain collision involving three cargo trucks occurred inside an expressway tunnel in the southeastern county of Goryeong on Tuesday, leaving one person dead and another injured, police said.

The accident took place inside Goryeong 2 Tunnel on the Jungbu Naeryuk Expressway in Goryeong, North Gyeongsang Province, at 12:34 p.m., when the three trucks rear-ended one another, police said.

A 5-ton truck was completely burned after the collisions, killing the driver, they said, adding another driver was injured.

Expressway authorities temporarily blocked traffic into the tunnel, and firefighters completely extinguished the fire at 1:47 p.m.

Police are investigating the exact cause of the accident, speculating the fire was caused by the collisions.
