The National Assembly issued subpoenas on Wednesday to question key suspects in the Park Geun-hye scandal who have refused to attend the ongoing parliamentary hearing.

Fourteen of 27 people ordered to testify as witnesses did not appear. They include Choi Soon-sil, Choi’s daughter Chung Yoo-ra, Choi’s niece Chang Si-ho and former presidential secretary Woo Byung-woo.

Choi, who faces criminal charges, has refused to attend, citing what she claims is “deteriorating” health. Her daughter is not in Korea and Woo’s whereabouts is unknown.

Issuing subpoenas, the National Assembly ordered dozens of its officers to take the defiant suspects to the questioning venue by 2 p.m.
