Foreign residents in Seoul can sell their secondhand items at a weekly flea market in Gwanghwamun Square this Sunday, according to the Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG), Monday.
The city government said that 50 foreign residents will put their secondhand items, handcrafts and souvenirs up for sale between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sept. 25.
SMG holds the flea market in the square every Sunday from April to October, and the foreigners’ market is organized five times a year, with the one this weekend being the fourth.
While the application for vendors has already closed, Seoul Global Center said the next flea market for foreign residents will be on Oct. 23 and applications open Oct. 1. No fee is required to participate. For inquiries about the market, email donghoon@seoul.go.kr or call (02) 2075-4117.
Also, this weekend’s flea market will be a part of the city’s special car-free day.
Vehicles will be banned from the 1.1-kilometer-long section of the boulevard between Gwanghwamun and City Hall between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Along with music and dance performances, the city will present an exhibition on solar power and electric vehicles. European Union foreign missions in Korea will present a photo exhibition related to the occasion.
Globally, Sept. 22 is celebrated as a car-free day. The city government has joined the movement since 2006. On Sept. 22, public parking lots run by the city will be closed.
