The Ministry of Justice has confirmed the dismissal of senior prosecutor Jin Kyung-joon who was indicted for taking kickbacks from Nexon founder Kim Jung-ju.

The ministry’s disciplinary committee on Monday approved the dismissal, which was requested earlier by Prosecutor General Kim Soo-nam.

This is the first time in the prosecution’s 68-year history that an incumbent senior prosecutor has been sacked for corruption.

A dismissed prosecutor is banned from practicing law for up to five years, and his or her pension is cut by 25 percent.

Jin was arrested and indicted for receiving 950 million won ($855,000) in bribes from the game company founder. The bribes included Nexon stocks, cars and expenses for his family’s overseas trips.

But the committee deferred the disciplinary decision about another senior prosecutor Kim Dae-hyeon, who allegedly drove a junior prosecutor to commit suicide through physical and verbal abuse, because he requested more time to prepare explanatory materials about the allegations. The Prosecutor General also asked for dismissal for him earlier.
