North Busan Police Station arrested a man, 48, on an attempted murder charge involving the “wrong” woman, Thursday.
The man allegedly broke into a house at Gupo-dong, Busan, around 10 p.m. Wednesday to strangle a person who spoke ill of him.
But he fled after realizing he was strangling the wrong person, police said.
He apologized to the woman, who was in her 50s, saying he had mistaken her for someone else, they said.
The man was arrested after a neighbor, who saw him fleeing, alerted police.
“I was trying to murder a woman who spread a rumor that got my wife to divorce me,” the man told police. “But I went to the wrong house.”
The man did not elaborate on the rumor.
