Local defense firm Huneed Technologies has signed a $120-million contract with Boeing to supply electronic systems for the latter’s transport helicopters.

The deal marks the firm’s entrance into the helicopter market, Huneed said, Thursday.

The firm has supplied electronic systems to the U.S. Navy and Air Force for their F-15 and F/A-18 combat jets since 2013.

“By gaining recognition for our business performance based on our previous dealings, we were able to win long-term and large-scale contract,” Huneed Chairman Eugene Kim said in a press release. “We will continually collaborate with international aviation companies to sustainably expand into the global avionics market.”

The electronic systems to be provided are core components installed in the cockpit and the interior of Boeing’s Chinook helicopters to transmit electrical signals between the engine and avionics systems.

The Chinook is a heavy-lift helicopter used by the U.S. Army. Over 1,500 helicopters have been manufactured so far and distributed to about 25 countries including South Korea.

It also has been used in Special Forces missions and post-disaster rescue missions worldwide. With such high demand in the market, the production of the model is expected to continue until 2040.
