A district court has fined a former Seoul National University (SNU) professor 5 million won for sending sexually harassing messages to a female tutee.
According to the Seoul Southern District Court, Sunday, the professor of classical vocal training, surnamed Park, 50, sent numerous lewd text messages to the woman in her 20s, whose identity was withheld, when she was staying in the U.S. in April 2013. She was not an SNU student but Park had given her private lessons earlier.
The messages included, “I want to kiss your buttocks,” “I want to see your breasts,” “Take a picture with your entire breasts shown.”
Park also sent her pictures of male body parts.
The student filed a complaint with the police, submitting the messages and photos as evidence.
Park said the messages were not considered lewd in the U.S. as the country is sexually open, but the court said the messages were sexually humiliating.
Separately, Park was dismissed from SNU for accepting cash and an expensive wristwatch in return for tutoring her.
