The government has responded to criticism about a post its blog and Twitter account @hellopolicy Jan. 27 and Jan. 29.

The post said: “We assume many have already started preparations for the traditional holidays. We introduce smart tips on how to select holiday gifts and shop for groceries for newlywed brides.”

This prompted responses from women who asked why the post depicted only women as thinking and preparing for the holidays, when working couples constitute a considerable percentage of families.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, which runs the blog and Twitter account, posted: "We apologize for not realizing that the "traditional holiday preparation for newlywed brides" post could, as some have pointed out, imply that preparing for the traditional holidays is the job of women. We will exercise more caution."

It posted a new image in which a wife and husband appear, and modified the phrase to say: “Seol preparation for newlywed couples.”
