Korean office workers will spend an average 558,000 won during the lunar New Year holidays, according to a survey.
Hunet, an education agency, surveyed 625 office workers to reach its estimate.
The survey found spending differed by marital status: singles were expected to spend an average 410,000 won, with couples spending 580,000 won.
Family allowances accounted for 66.6 percent of spending, while other expenditure included buying presents and memorial service tables.
New Year’s Day or "Seollal" falls on Feb. 8.
Meanwhile, 87.8 percent of those surveyed said they will take a substitute holiday on Feb. 10.
This is a 13.4 percent increase on 2014 when the substitute holiday law was introduced. It allows office workers to take leave the next working day when national holidays include weekends.
