The presidential office at Cheong Wa Dae on Monday expressed concern that a number of parliamentary bills proposing reform of the labor market and measures to boost the economy may be further delayed by a deepening rift in the opposition camp.

The abrupt departure of Ahn Cheol-soo from the main opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy Sunday has cast further doubt over how long it might take to decide whether the bills are to be approved during an extra session of the National Assembly.

“We are watching the situation with serious concern,” said Jeong Yeon-guk, presidential spokesman said when asked about the division in the opposition.

He called on both the ruling and the opposition parties to speedily approve the bills for labor reform, helping the economy and one containing security measures to fight terrorism.
