Ahn Cheol-soo, former co-chairman of the main opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy (NPAD), on Monday submitted by fax the required papers to leave the party, Yonhap reports.

“Ahn sent by fax the documents to the party’s Seoul branch,” a political ally of Ahn was quoted as saying.

When such documents are submitted, the party must de-list the party member or lawmaker within two days, according to the NPAD rules.

After officially declaring his exit from NPAD, Ahn on Monday visited homes in his electoral district of Nowon-gu in northeastern Seoul. He is expected to meet voters originally from the southwestern Jeolla provinces.

Ahn has said he will create a new political force, but he has not explained how he plans to do this.
