Court nullifies fraud marriage

A court ruled in favor of a wife in a nullity suit against her husband who hid his seven previous marriages, according to Seoul Family Court Sunday.

The couple, whose names were withheld, met through online chatting and married in June 2013. The husband, 45, started staying out after the marriage and demanded money from his wife, 38, otherwise he verbally abused her.

He went out of contact three months after the marriage; and after another two months filed a divorce suit, saying his wife ran away.

The wife then found out that he had married seven times before. She filed a suit to annul the marriage.

A lower court rejected both the husband’s divorce suit and the wife’s nullity suit, saying she also wanted to marry him.

But she appealed when she found that he had swindled one of his ex-wives out of 180 million won.

Overturning the lower court ruling, a high court ordered marriage nullified, saying the man had no intention of starting a family and married her only for money.
