Discussions are underway regarding arrangements for a visit by U.N Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to North Korea, according to his spokesman, Wednesday.

"The secretary-general has always expressed his willingness to play a constructive role in the situation on the Korean Peninsula, including traveling to North Korea, and discussions are ongoing," Stephane Dujarric was quoted as saying by Yonhap.

While he referred indirectly to the issue, his comment is seen as a confirmation that Ban will visit the North.

However, the spokesman dismissed a report by Xinhua Agency that there would be a trip by Ban to Pyongyang next week.

Xinhua reported Wednesday that Ban would go to the North on Nov, 23 and stay for four days, citing Pyongyang's Korean Central News Agency as its source.

Yonhap quoted an anonymous high-level U.N. source as saying that Ban is seeking to visit the North and several dates are being discussed.
