Okpo shipyard fire kills worker, injures seven

One man was killed and seven injured ina fire Tuesday at the Okpo shipyard at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province, Yonhap reports.

The fire started in a tank on an 85,000-ton LPG carrier being built at DSME, the report said.

Poison gas is believed to have killed the workman, aged in his 50s. Among the seven injured, one is in a critical condition. They are being treated at the nearby Daewoo Hospital.

Police and firefighters said about 130 people were in the tank when the fire erupted. It took about an hour to extinguish.

Another fire at the shipyard, on Aug. 24, killed two workers and injured seven.
