Citizens will have a chance to play “baduk” (the Korean name for the board game “Go”) with professional baduk players during a car-free event in Gwanghwamun on Sunday.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government said Friday that various programs will be presented on the combined 1.1-kilometer section between Gwanghwamun to City Hall from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The event is part of the annual Car Free Day campaign.
In the event, 100 professional baduk players, including master Cho Hun-hyun, Kim Ji-seok and Choi Jeong, who are the city’s publicity ambassadors for Car Free Day, will have games with 1,000 citizens.
KB Kookmin Bank will donate 10,000 won per game, totaling 10 million won, for charity.
Other programs include a flea market with foreign participants, street snacks, amateur band performances, martial arts shows and a chance to experience environment-friendly scooters.
Cars are banned on the section and buses will make a detour. For more detailed traffic information, call Dasan Call Center at 120.
“The street, which is usually filled with cars, will be filled with various programs and cultural performances where citizens can participate,” a city official said. “We hope pedestrians and bicycles will be the main users of the street on that day.”
