Moods, gender drive hunger for comfort foods

The food you seek for comfort can vary according to your emotions, a study shows.
A team at Gwangwoon University's department of industrial psychology, led by Professor Lee Sang-hee, showed that Korean college students seek meat dishes when they feel good. But when they feel low, they crave alcohol and spicy food.
The study surveyed 417 students based in Seoul and the metropolitan area.
There were differences along gender lines _ male students sought meat dishes when they were happy while female students went for fried chicken.
When they were having fun, male students sought alcohol, followed by fried chicken and meat dishes. Female students got fried chicken, followed by ice-cream and pizza and spaghetti.
When men were sad they went for alcohol, followed by chocolate and other drinks. In the case of women, they sought chocolate, followed by alcohol and spicy food.
When male students were angry, they wanted alcohol, followed by spicy food and other drinks. Female students craved spicy food, followed by chocolate and alcohol.
