Probe reveals sexual molesters at school

Listen

An audit of a molestation scandal at a Seoul public high school has unearthed further cases.

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education began the audit after a female student told the school on July 14 that a male teacher in his 50s had molested her. The teacher headed the school’s sexual distress department.

As the audit proceeded, other cases involving male teachers were reported by female teachers and students.

Another teacher was said to spell out his sexual fantasies during class and give students sexual nicknames such as “Chunhyang” and “Hwang Jinyi”. This teacher also allegedly molested co-workers.

Both teachers have been relieved of duty and are waiting criminal charges.

This controversial school has been the subject of two more sexual harassment cases in the past three years.

The Seoul education office did not press any charges or take disciplinary action at the time, prompting criticism that it may have initially overlooked the cases.
