Police arrest resident over pesticide death

Listen

Police in Sangju, North Gyeongsang Province, have arrested an elderly resident identified only as “A” over a pesticide-related death, Yonhap reported. Six elderly women fell ill this week after drinking what they believed was cider at a community hall. The drink was found to contain pesticide, and one 86-year-old woman later died.

Police said Friday they found a bottle of an energy drink without a cap in A’s house. The cider in the community hall had an energy drink cap on it, raising suspicions that someone may have poured pesticide into the bottle.

The resident has denied any wrongdoing.
