Beaches in the southern port city of Busan will be the first to open this season.
Haeundae, Songdo and Songjeong beaches will open June 1 through Sep. 10.
Gwangalli beach will open a month later on July 1, after restoration work is completed.
Festivals and events await beachgoers this season.
Haeundae beach, which marks its 50th anniversary, will host a sand festival May 29-31.
Ten sand artists from five countries will create works featuring "Pinocchio," "Peter Pan," "The Wizard of Oz" and "Jack and the Beanstalk."
At 9 p.m. on May 30, acclaimed DJs and dance teams will transform the beach into a club.
Songdo beach will feature its 104-meter “skywalk” that enables visitors to stroll above the water.
