Police have arrested Korean Basketball League coach Jeon Chang-jin for allegedly gambling hundreds of millions of won in illegal online sports betting, media outlets said Tuesday.
The Anyang KGC head coach allegedly borrowed at least 300 million won from a moneylender and bet that his former team, Busan KT Sonicboom, would lose matches held in February and March. He almost doubled his money.
Jeon allegedly manipulated the matches with four accomplices. Jeon had reportedly promised to give them a share of his winnings.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency interrogated the moneylender, who gave them Jeon’s promissory note.
Police have arrested two other men and have banned Jeon from leaving the country. They plan to summon Jeon.
