Ahn's wife talks of tears, smiles over TV documentary

Korean-born Russian athlete Viktor Ahn, also known as Ahn Hyun-soo, has starred in national TV series "Human Documentary Love."

Woo Na-ri, the wife of the athlete who chose to switch his allegiance to Russia in 2011, took to Instagram to talk about the MBC documentary featuring her short-track athlete husband.

"We were surely smiling when we filmed the documentary, but I don't know what brings tears to our eyes," Woo wrote.

"Don't cry, my husband, let's watch the documentary together with smiles."

The Monday night episode featuring Ahn's story of choosing to become a naturalized Russian was titled, "Ahn Hyun-soo, two nations and one love."

The episode also introduced Ahn's wife and her story of being a member of Ahn's fan club for more than 10 years.

Ahn's gold medal in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, left Koreans with mixed feelings after it became known that his decision was mostly based on factionalism within Korea's speed skating community, ultimately leading to the disbandment of Ahn's team.
