Martial arts expert jailed for injuring policeman

A martial arts expert has been jailed for seriously injuring a policeman.

Gwangju District Court heard that the drunken man, 28, picked a fight with two pedestrians at around 1:45 a.m. near a convenience store in Gwangju, South Jeolla Province.

Asked to show identification, he tripped the policeman and kicked his cheek and knee.

The policeman, who was taken to hospital, took 12 weeks to recover.

The defendant argued in court that he had been too drunk to know what he was doing.

But on Sunday the court jailed him for six months, noting that the policeman had been seriously injured and traumatized.
