“Great journey, new leap forward” has become a theme for an event commemorating the 70th anniversary of Korea's liberation from the 1910-45 Japanese colonial rule, the committee staging the event said Monday.
The committee held a proclamation ceremony at Sejong Culture Center and presented the theme and emblem of the 70th anniversary celebration.
It explained “Great journey” signifies Korea’s historic development, which made the country the eighth-biggest trader in the world, rising from the ashes of the 1950-1953 Korean War.
“New leap forward” refers to the determination to make the South an advanced society and to lay the groundwork for a unified Korea.
The committee plans to use the theme and emblem for the liberation day event. Also, the emblem, which embodies the number 70, will be used on big electronic display boards and banners to advertise the event.
The committee is preparing various programs that encourage public participation. It will also issue commemorative coins and stamps, bearing the new emblem.
