I don’t know about you, but I am sick to death of the honey butter craze, the only thing one should spread honey butter upon is warm toasted crumpets!
It’s been six months since the release of the first honey butter chips and they are still harder to get hold of than an iPhone on launch day.
With the original snacks still as elusive as ever, corporations are cashing in on the trend by pumping out their own varieties of honey butter foods.
With McDonald’s now offering honey butter versions of their French fries, to honey butter chocolate milk, coffee, and nuts, honey butter has made its way onto every restaurant menu in the country.

With no end in sight I don’t know where the madness will end.
Some canny store owners have even found a way to make even more money from the original chips by attaching a single bag to a variety of other snacks in the store and selling the bundle for a whopping 10,000 won.
While Calbee is having trouble keeping up with the demand, avid customers are stalking chain stores day and night asking about deliveries, prompting store owners to hang up signs telling customers they are sold out.

To add to the absurdity, rival brand Lotte has tried to start its own fad food, by producing chocolate covered shrimp snacks, which really induce a sickly taste.
When the choco shrimp combo didn’t pay off they launched their latest flavour, Strawberry Shrimp, a flavor combination that shouldn’t have been created in the first place.
While honey butter chips are in short supply, the trend is still set to be milked for all it’s worth.
I have no doubt it is this scarcity that is keeping Korea hungry for more, and until every store is stocked I sadly can’t see it ending anytime soon.
Who knows what’s next, honey butter craft beer? Just remember you heard it here first!
