Forensic scientists said Monday that a torso found at Sihwa Seawall in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, on Sunday, is that of a woman who once had an operation to remove her appendix.
In addition, the victim had an operation to close an arterial tube right after giving birth.
Based on these findings, police are trying to identify the victim by checking the list of all missing women and their medical records. Police asked the National Health Insurance Service to cooperate by drawing up a list of medical records of females who underwent these procedures.
Police said the victim might be a foreigner because there are large foreign communities near where the torso was found.
“If she was an illegal alien, it will be difficult to identify her,” a police officer said. The torso was found by a man fishing on a seawall Sunday.
Police said the victim has been dead no more than a week.
The torso has a number of marks, likely sustained after having oriental treatment to improve blood circulation.
The victim ate chicken and green chilli about six hours prior to her death, police said. Police ruled out the possibility that she was killed by an organ transplant ring because her internal organs were intact.
