The allegation from Shin Hae-chul’s family that Seoul Sky Hospital video-recorded its operation on the singer before he died is untrue, police say.

“We’ve concluded that such a video does not exist,” a Songpa Police Station officer said. “The conclusion is based on our questioning of nurses who were present during the surgery and examinations of computer servers.

“We believe there was a misunderstanding between the hospital and Shin’s family.”

The family claimed on Wednesday that the hospital promised last week to hand over the recordings from a surgical video camera, but hospital officials denied the existence of such a file during a police raid.

According to police, a nurse who had worked at the hospital for the past three years told them she had never seen any video of the surgery or heard of such videos.

Police also said the hospital had no equipment to record surgery.

Police plan to question lead surgeon Kang Se-hoon, who operated on Shin on Oct. 17. Initial autopsy results linked Shin’s death to a surgical error, which Kang has denied.

Shin fell into a coma days after undergoing surgery for intestinal adhesions, and died on Oct. 27.
