One more body recovered from sunken ferry Sewol

One more body was recovered from the sunken passenger ferry Sewol on Tuesday after more than three months of no progress in the search for those still missing, officials said.

The badly decomposed body, presumed to be that of a woman, was found in the fourth-deck female bathroom of the submerged ship at around 5.30 p.m. and was being lifted out, according to officials from the government's disaster response team.

The recovery raised the death toll to 295 and lowered the number of those missing to nine.

The 6,825-ton ferry Sewol sank in waters off the southwestern island of Jindo on April 16 en route to the southern resort island of Jeju. Of the total number of people on board, only 174 were rescued while the others, mostly high school students on a school trip, perished. (Yonhap)
