Children attend leadership camp

About 200 elementary school students developed leadership skills this week at a training camp in Yongin, south of Seoul.
The two-day leadership camp, co-organized by the Hankook Children’s Daily, a sister newspaper of The Korea Times, and Allianz Life Insurance, took place from Oct. 23 to 24 at the Allianz’s educational center.
Kim Tae-gyu, Head of the Consumer and Communications Office at Allianz Life Insurance, gave a welcoming speech during the camp’s opening ceremony, citing the story of a Pakistani activist for female rights.
“The 17-year-old Noble Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai fought for girls' rights to education and children's rights,” Kim said.
“The young girl’s cry has changed the world. Student leaders should be able to encourage their friends to dream of a better world, pay attention to what they say and be more considerate,” he added.
Moon Hyun-suk, publisher of the children’s daily, also called for participants to take an active role in the society.
“Even though the camp only lasts two days, I hope you establish good relations with other participants and gain a more active and democratic attitude in all social interaction,” Moon said.
On the second day of the camp, participants gave a presentation about their dream and attended a lecture by the head of Space School, local space travel education center.
