Forum to focus on ASEAN connectivity

ASEAN Connectivity will be the key theme in next week’s business forum held by the ASEAN-Korea Centre headquartered in Seoul.

The forum titled “Korea’s Contribution to ASEAN Connectivity” is expected to provide the latest information on infrastructure projects in the ASEAN region for Korean companies.

Under the theme, the organization is seeking to build a successful ASEAN Community by 2015, bringing people, goods, services and capital together. This will enable network building among the Korean business community, ASEAN government organizations and experts in the infrastructure field.

High-ranking government officials from ASEAN member states will visit Korea to attend the forum, sharing ideas on how Korea could cooperate with them.

The event, scheduled for next Tuesday, will take place at the Convention Centre of the Federation of Korean Industries. It comes about two months before the ASEAN-Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit, which will be held under the chairwomanship of President Park Geun-hye.

Earlier this month, Park said the Korean government would cooperate with ASEAN on infrastructure construction such as transport, communications and ICT to boost connectivity across the region. She also stressed the need to narrow the development gap in the area.

Amid the rising importance of mutual cooperation among Asian countries, the ASEAN-Korea Centre was established in 2009 to boost economic and socio-cultural exchanges between ASEAN and Korea.
