A former top South Korean military officer has joined the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) to share his work experience, the think tank said Tuesday.
Retired Army Gen. Jung Seung-jo, who served as chairman of South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff from 2011 to 2013, became a new "distinguished senior associate" for the Korea program, the Washington-based institute announced.
Evan Ramstad, a U.S. journalist known for his expertise on the Korean economy, also assumed the position at CSIS, it added. He was Korea chief correspondent of The Wall Street Journal for seven years from 2006.
“CSIS welcomes General Jung and Mr. Ramstad. I know that these two experienced and wise gentlemen will contribute to the vibrant discourse of the Center. All of our experts look forward to the opportunity to learn from them," said John Hamre, president and CEO of the institute.
Victor Cha, the Korea chairman at CSIS, said, "Given the complex security and business-economic dynamics surrounding the peninsula, I could not think of two more qualified individuals to offer their years of experience and understanding.”(Yonhap)
