A group of online community users shared their opinions insulting the Sewol sinking tragedy victims in Jindo.
On the day of the sinking, Ilbe, an infamous website full of self-proclaimed ultra right wingers, had a number of posts of photos and short messages that are deemed beyond heinous.
“I’ve watched the news all day, and all I want for dinner is shabushabu, a Japanese dish of thin slices of meat and vegetables cooked at table in a simmering pot of broth,” one user commented.
Another commented with an imitation of the commercial song for the snack Orion Goraebap, with the word Goraebap meaning the Whale’s meal, “For fun, for the taste, Jindo Goraebap.”
Adding to the furor of the already flabbergasted general public, some even said that the “victims’ family’s wailing is too much of an eyesore.” “Victims’ families will get 2,000 fried chicken for free. Their life is better than ours,” commented one Ilbe member.
Another said, “They all just might as well get the coffin ready to bury the body.”
Non-Ilbe users are up in arms about the ignorant insensitivity about the Ilbe posts.
“They should be reported, and be facing charges. Do they even know what they are saying?” wondered one ID user.
“Ilbe is just a trash site that needs to be shut down. Everyone is expressing their deepest condolences, and those ignorant ones think this is a chance to be snarky? Those kind of thoughtless, callous people should be denied the freedom of expression. They do not deserve it,” said another ID user.
