Studies show middle and high school students in the Seoul Metropolitan area have sexual intercourse as early as the age of 13 or 14.
The Seoul Foundation of Women & Family asked 476 middle and high school students about their sex life.
The average age for middle school freshmen and juniors who had their first experience with sex was at age 13.6. Among them, only 48.3 percent of the male students and 42.1 percent the female students used contraceptives or birth control.
Those who had received sex education amounted to 68.6 percent. However, only 52 percent of older students (high school seniors) had any knowledge of sex education.
