Disgraceful concession of plagiarism by noted public figures may become a thing of the past by the introduction of a new measure at Seoul National University (SNU).
It will out in place a software program that detects same or similar sentences or phrases in dissertations, a spokesperson for SNU said Sunday.
The measure is to hold university faculty to higher moral standards, and to promote that spirit, said the university.
It further contemplates the program be the criteria for employment or promotion of the professors.
As for the undergraduates’ papers, if anything suspicious gets detected, the student has to re-write until it gets an approval.
SNU will adopt the system as early as February next year.
Prior to this, the university screened the self-introductions and recommendations of university applicants using the software.
