It was one in the morning on June 26 at a club in Itaewon, Seoul. A 28-year-old Ms. A and her cousin went clubbing, looking for a “quick fling.” After many drinks, the two relatives left with 24-year-old Mr. B from Pakistan and his friend.

Ms. A suggested more drinks. She also passively hinted at pairing up and going to a motel to drink. Finding only 7,000 won in his wallet, Mr. B proposed, “This is all I have. If you’d like, let’s go to my place and grab more drinks.” The group agreed and headed to his house.

Having already consumed a lot of alcohol at the club, they were soon intoxicated. Aside from Ms. A and Mr. B, the remaining two members decided to head off into the room and sleep. Ms. A and Mr. B continued to drink as they slowly lost self-control.

A few hours later, Ms. A and Mr. B awoke in a police station investigation room. For unknown reasons, Ms. A and Mr. B had an argument resulting in her reporting him of “raping me.” Police investigation became difficult because Ms. A and Mr. B had both lost their memories.

Ms. A said she “was raped” because though she couldn’t remember the entire situation, she recollected they had intercourse. Though Mr. B denied having sexual relations, as a victim, it was her word against his due to strict laws and measures against rape.

However, the story hit a twist in less than a day when Ms. A texted Mr. B with signs of affection.

On the night after the police investigation, Ms. A texted, “Hey darling, where are you? I miss you~” to Mr. B, and the two of them went to a motel for sexual intercourse. Given the opportunity to rid himself of rape charges, he used the text messages and recorded phone call as evidence against Ms. A for false accusation.

Using the CCTV footage from the motel along with Mr. B’s evidence, the police indicted Ms. A on false accusation charges. In just a day, Ms. A went from victim to suspect. She had previous incidents of perjury.

“Even after being charged with perjury, she won’t drop the rape charges,” a police official stated. “If she didn’t call him that night, he would be the only one facing criminal charges.”
