Doctors slapped on the wrist for 140 abortions

The appellate court dismissed a prosecutor’s appeal in asking that four doctors be punished for operating more than 100 abortions.

The prosecutor in Daejeon asked for six-month prison term and suspension of their businesses, but the District Court denied and ordered them suspended sentence.

“Women’s right to choose what’s best for them is not to be taken lightly, and abortion is socially condoned here. The court can’t hold only the accused responsible,” the judge said in his ruling Wednesday.

From January 2008 to February 2011, the doctors allegedly performed up to 140 abortions.
