The vice principal of Younghoon International Middle School, Kim, was found to have hung himself to death, police said Sunday.
A security guard found the body near the entrance of the school at 6: 50 p.m. and called the police. Kim was under investigation for the admission irregularities.
He is on charges of conspiring to manipulate school records to favor some student over others. Admission officer and administration chief are also suspected to be complicit.
His suicide note read, “I did it for the school, but I guess I thought wrong. Younghoon is the best, so please go on with pride without me.”
The police plans to look into the investigation process if there was any coercion or illegitimate harassment.
The crackdown on Younghoon will continue despite the incident, the police said. The school will be closed on 17 and 18 of this month.
Younghoon came under scrutiny after revelations that the school admitted the son of Samsung Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong, the only son of Samsung owner Lee Kun-hee, under a special program for the socially underprivileged.
The boy has since been taken out of the school and is speculated to be headed overseas for further studies.
