Hanwha Group Chairman Kim Seung-yeon’s second son is under investigation on suspicions of smoking marijuana, the Incheon District Prosecutors’ Office said Monday.
Prosecutors plan to summon Kim, who is now in the United States undergoing medical treatment, for questioning.
The investigation came after prosecutors secured testimony from the son of a Hyundai Group owner family, who was being questioned for also smoking marijuana.
The prosecution said Kim obtained the drug from a Korean American dealer in September, 2012, who allegedly bought it from an American sergeant at the U.S. Air Force base in Osan, Gyeonggi Province.
Kim is the son who triggered an assault against bar workers by his father. After he had a fight with people working in a bar in 2007, his father, along with a group of gangsters, kidnapped the attackers of his son beat them up.
He also came under fire last year after he was only fined for a hit and run accident in Gangnam.
