An American who was on the run after raping a girl in the U.S. state of Kentucky four times between August and October 2003 was arrested here Friday, according to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency (SMPA).
The SMPA said it apprehended the man, 44, who was teaching at a private language institute in North Jeolla Province, and is in the process of deporting him.
To evade a police dragnet, he entered Korea via Thailand in 2004.
He worked as an English teacher in Korea for eight years, before the FBI uncovered his whereabouts in February this year and requested the Korean police to detain him.
The SMPA said that since he has no criminal record in Korea, he will not stand trial here.
