The owner of a well-known confectionary company decided to close his business Wednesday, amid mounting criticism against his assault on a local hotel manager last week.
Prime Bakery Chairman Kang Soo-tae apologized for causing trouble as a result he decided to close his company, according to a report by cable news channel YTN.
On April 24, Kang attacked a Lotte Hotel staffer in his 50s, surnamed Park, with his wallet, after Park asked the chairman to move his car and park elsewhere.
Kang allegedly apologized to Park for his violent behavior saying, “You should think it was a bad day,” but the wording caused a greater uproar from Internet users.
As a result of this incident and the resulting public uproar it triggered, Korea Railroad (KORAIL), the largest customer of Prime Bakery suspended its contract with the bakery.
“Since the incident is being criticized by the public, it is a common idea to withdraw the company’s products and suspend supply contracts,” an official at KORAIL said.
Meanwhile, Internet users posted mixed comments on Kang’s sudden decision with one netizen saying that: “He deserves it” and another: “It is unfair for the employees.”
